Precautions for managing and maintaining broadband routers

Enterprises generally use routers during networking, so as enterprises become more and more dependent on the network, routers become the lifeblood of the enterprise network. If the enterprise router is not managed and maintained in time in time, over time, it will gradually cause various inexplicable failures, which will eventually lead to the enterprise router not working normally and cause the enterprise network interruption, which will cause many inconveniences to enterprise users.

Moreover, many enterprise router failures are very hidden, and it is difficult to detect if you are not careful, which is very troublesome. If you wait until the performance of the enterprise router and network outage appear, you will rush to use a lot of manpower and material resources to remedy it, it will be very difficult. In addition, if there are sudden situations such as lightning and lightning, but not enough precautions for the enterprise router in advance, it may create a good opportunity for users to replace new devices.

Therefore, various problems with enterprise routers should be prevented before they occur, and daily management and maintenance work should be done in a timely manner, and efforts should be made to be prepared for any eventuality. To effectively manage and maintain enterprise routers, we should start from the following aspects.

1. Make marks for easy maintenance

Since there are relatively many computers inside the enterprise LAN and many network cables, if there is a failure, it is not known which cable is used. Therefore, the network cable connecting the computer and the router should be marked. At the router end, which host should be connected, and at the computer end, it should be marked which port to connect to the router to facilitate maintenance work.

2. Provide a good working environment for enterprise routers

In the instructions of the enterprise router, the manufacturer has already clarified the environmental indicators for the normal operation of the router. Therefore, the enterprise should try to provide the enterprise router with a working environment that complies with the environmental indicators specified by the manufacturer during use, otherwise it will affect the normal operation of the router and may even damage the router. Generally, it is necessary to pay attention to the voltage of the power supply, operating temperature, storage temperature, working phase humidity, storage relative humidity, etc.

Pay special attention to moisture and heat prevention. Since enterprise routers are composed of many tight electronic components, which will cause circuit short circuits due to moisture, it is necessary to place them in a dry place. Especially during the rainy season, we should pay more attention to keeping the working environment of the enterprise router dry. In addition, since the chip of the device will emit a lot of heat during operation of the enterprise router, if it is not distributed in time, it may cause the chip's heat to exceed the index range, resulting in abnormal operation of the enterprise router. Therefore, it is best to place the router in a ventilated and dry position, never cover the router with decorative cloth, and do not pile up books, debris, etc. around the router. You must let the router have a good breathability.

3. Anti-electromagnetic interference

During the transmission process, data will be affected by many factors, and electromagnetic interference is one of the main aspects. For example, if speakers, radio transceivers and other equipment are too close to the enterprise router, the network signal may be affected by external radiation. Therefore, try to place the enterprise router in an independent place and be far away from the devices that will cause electromagnetic interference.

4. Do not plug and unplug the enterprise router at will during power-on process.

When the router is powered up, try not to plug and unplug it with electricity, because such operations can easily cause circuit damage. Although many enterprise router manufacturers have taken certain protective measures, special attention should still be paid to avoid unnecessary damage to the enterprise router.

5. Take lightning protection measures

Mines are not uncommon in my country. Take Guangzhou as an example. The average thunderstorm weather can reach 80.3 times per year, so there are also quite a few router users who have suffered damage due to lightning strikes. According to the survey and analysis of engineers at Qno Xianuo Technology, 30% of network equipment failures are directly related to lightning strikes. Although in many cases, the induced voltage caused by lightning strikes cannot completely reimburse the enterprise router at once, even if the network failure was not caused at that time, if the enterprise router is often affected by overvoltage shock, it will easily cause the aging of the router equipment parts, greatly shorten its service life, and be more susceptible to damage for old enterprise routers. In this way, without corresponding grounding protection measures, corporate routers will be easily damaged by natural disasters such as lightning strikes, seriously affecting the stable operation of the network. Therefore, enterprises must take effective measures to prevent lightning strikes. Enterprise users can protect against lightning strikes by making equipment grounding devices and installing effective lightning protection systems.

6. Prevent power outage

In the current situation of "panic" everywhere, it is no longer surprising that municipal power supply implements shut-off and power limit on enterprises. Moreover, during the power supply process, there will be such unstable problems such as intermittent voltage, and frequent power supply (voltage too low, such as below 150V; or too high, such as above 260V). If the power supply is often unstable, it will easily lead to the router equipment in the enterprise network not being able to work continuously. If enterprise routers often work in this abnormal power supply environment, it will not only seriously affect the service quality provided by the router to the enterprise network, but will also greatly shorten the service life of the enterprise router in the long run.

Therefore, to ensure the "stable and longevity" of enterprise routers, the best way is to equip corporate routers with a UPS power system with excellent and stable performance. UPS power supply can effectively solve the problems of power grid such as power outage, lightning peaks, surges, frequency oscillations, voltage sudden changes, voltage fluctuations, frequency drifts, voltage drops, pulse interference, etc. If the enterprise router is equipped with a UPS power supply system, you no longer have to worry about the instability of the voltage or the sudden power outage will damage the router.

7. Try to avoid impact and shock

When the enterprise router is impacted and oscillated, it may cause loose components of the router equipment, and may even directly cause hardware damage. Therefore, when reinstalling the enterprise router after mobile, it is recommended that the router be fixed to a specific rack. This will not only prevent the router from impacting and oscillating, but also make the cables not easy to fall off, ensuring that the enterprise router communicates normally.

8. Effectively defend against enterprise routers from static electricity

During electrostatic discharge, it is easy to cause hardware damage to corporate routers. With the continuous advancement of network equipment chip technology, the speed and functions of the chip have been improved, but the chip has become more fragile. A less high electrostatic voltage can break the transistor, and a less large electrostatic current can fuse the connection. Static electricity is everywhere. Static electricity is an invisible killer of network equipment. Therefore, to effectively maintain corporate routers, correct measures to prevent static electricity must be taken. There are two specific methods:

1) Enterprise routers should maintain good contact and have reliable grounding devices.

2) For enterprises in some dry climates (such as enterprises in northern regions) should use humidifiers appropriately during the dry season to maintain a certain humidity of the air to avoid the accumulation of static electricity in equipment, office equipment and corporate network users.

9. Keep corporate routers away from the hustle and bustle of dust

The harm of dust to enterprise routers cannot be ignored. If there is too much dust on the device and it is not cleaned up in time, then the enterprise network may experience some inexplicable failures. At the least, it may cause poor interface contact, and at the worst, it may burn the chips in the enterprise router. It can be seen that the dust removal skills of enterprise routers are also very important and cannot be ignored or mistaken.

10. Pay attention to safety precautions

In actual use of enterprise routers, in addition to correctly installing and setting up settings, you must also set up management passwords and keep them confidential. Don’t let others outside the administrator approach the router at will, and don’t let others configure the router at will.

11. Regularly backup data of enterprise routers

In order to prevent the original configuration from being lost due to accidental network paralysis, the configuration of the enterprise router should be backed up regularly. Before performing backup, you must first build a tftp server. This is easier. Choose a PC and run the CISCO TFTP SERVER software. Then back up the router configuration to the backup server. The specific operation steps are as follows:

1) Telnet to the router to be backed up, telnet (server IP address)

2) Check whether the router is connected to the tftp server, ping (tftp server IP address)

3) Use copy running-config tftp to backup configuration files to tftp server

4) Enter the tftp server IP address and destination file name according to the command and confirm

12. Regularly update the system software of enterprise routers

The operating system of an enterprise router is like a network operating system and needs to be updated frequently to correct some programming errors, software defects and cache overflows. Because the router's system software often has many versions, the functions supported by each version are different. When the current software version does not support a certain function, it will lead to the loss of some functions of the enterprise router, and as long as the corresponding software upgrade is performed, the lost function will be restored. Therefore, you need to frequently check the router manufacturer for the update of the current corporate router and the operating system version. If you find a new version, you should update it as much as possible.

The above is all the content of this article. I hope it will be helpful to everyone's study and I hope everyone will support me more.
