1. Recover corrupted Win XP system files
If Windows XP system files are corrupted by viruses or other reasons, we can recover those corrupted files from the Windows XP installation disk.
Specific method: Search for corrupted files in the Windows XP installation disk. It should be noted that the last character of the file name is replaced by the bottom line "_". For example: If you want to search for "", you need to use "Notepad.ex_" to search.
After searching, open command line mode (enter "cmd" in "Run"), and enter: "Full path to EXPAND source file Full path to target file". For example: EXPAND D:SETUPNOTEPAD.EX_ C:. One thing to note is that if there are spaces in the path, the path needs to be included in double quotes (English quotes).
It is of course the best to find, but sometimes we can't find the files we need when searching on Windows XP disk. One reason for this is that the file you are looking for is in the "CAB" file. Since Windows XP treats "CAB" as a folder, for Windows XP systems, you only need to right-drag the "CAB" file and copy it to the corresponding directory.
If you are using another Windows platform, search for the "CAB" file containing the target file name. Then turn on command line mode and enter: "EXTRACT /L Destination Location Full path to CAB file", for example: EXTRACT /L C:Windows D: . As before, if there are spaces in the path, you need to include the path in double quotes.
2. Reject "Group Similar Taskbar"
Although the Windows XP "Group Similar Taskbar Button" setting allows your taskbar to open less windows and keep it clean, it is very inconvenient for some work that requires opening multiple windows of the same type. If you often use communication software like QQ to chat online with people, if there are more than two friends talking to you at the same time, you will immediately feel the inconvenience caused by the default settings of XP. D D Every time you want to switch to the person you are talking to, you must first click on the group, and then select the friend you want to talk to in the menu that pops up. Moreover, each friend displays the same icon in the group. When there are many people talking to you, you may have to click one by one to see who replied just now, waiting for your reaction, and if you choose the wrong one, you have to start from the group, which is very troublesome. Obviously, it is better to open several windows in this way and click on each small window in the taskbar to start chatting. Change method: Click "Start → Control Panel → Appearance and Theme → Taskbar and 'Start' menu", and in the pop-up window, remove the hook in front of the "Group Similar Taskbar Buttons" option.
3. Uninstall useless dynamic links through the registry
Explorer often leaves useless dynamic links in memory. To eliminate this phenomenon, you can open the registry editor and set the key value: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows
CurrentVersionEXPlorerAlwaysUnloadDLL=DWORD: 1 Set it to 0 and this function will be turned off. Note: In order for the settings to take effect, you need to restart the computer.
4. Clear the pre-read file in the prefetch folder
After Win XP is used for a period of time, the files in the pre-read folder will become large, and there will be dead-link files in it, which will slow down the system time. Suggestion: Delete these files regularly. (Windowsprefetch)
5. Windows XP weight loss method
The following method is my current winXP weight loss method. After using it, I feel that it is safer and has obvious effect. It can reduce space by at least 300m. Note: Not recommended for beginners
Delete the driver backup: Files in the Windows Driver cachei386 directory (73MB) But in the future, we must insert the Windows installation CD every time we install new hardware.
Delete system file backup (usually not used): Run command line sfc /purgecache
Delete the alternate dll file: As long as you copy the installation file or have an installation CD, you can do this. Windowssystem32dllcache file (minus 200-300mb).
6. Understand Win XP startup time
Although the startup speed of Windows XP has already been satisfying, Microsoft still provides us with a widget for understanding the specific startup time consumed when Windows XP is booting, as well as viewing CPU usage, Disk I/O, etc., which is clear at a glance because the tool is displayed graphically. The tool can be downloaded here.
7. Recover EXE file associations
It is very troublesome to have errors in EXE file associations, because this situation is mostly caused by viruses, and the main files of the antivirus software are all EXE files. Since there is an error in EXE file associations, how can the antivirus software be run? Fortunately, XP provides command line tools in safe mode for us to use, and we can use command line tools to solve this problem.
In safe mode, enter: assoc<space>.exe=exefile<Enter> and ".exe=exefile" will be displayed on the screen. Now close the command prompt window, press the Ctrl+Alt+Del key combination to call up the "Windows Security" window, press the "Shutdown" button and select the "Restart" option. After starting Windows in normal mode, all EXE files can run normally!
8. Make Win XP automatically update
When Windows is updated, the automatic update system will prompt you to upgrade Windows. Of course, this function will only have real effects after surfing the Internet. One thing that is certain is that in order to achieve automatic updates, the system will definitely collect user's computer information and then transmit it to Microsoft's site to determine whether to upgrade through feedback information. This setting is also in the "System Properties" window. Switch to the "Auto Update" tab. You can see that there are three choices here. Select the last one "Off Automatic Update", so that the system will not often prompt you to update automatically. If you do not use the genuine Windows XP operating system, it is recommended that you turn off this function, because it may allow you to upgrade the system to Windows XP SP2 version without knowing it, which will cause system instability.
9, install IIS in the Home version
As we all know, Windows XP Home version cannot install IIS or PWS. According to the general method, you can only upgrade to XP Professional or use Windows 2000, but with a little use, you can install IIS on Windows XP Home.
First, enter "c:\Windows\inf\” in the "Run" menu, and the system will automatically open the file using Notepad. Find the paragraph "[Components]" in it, and continue to find a line like "iis=,OcEntry,,hide,7", and replace this line with "iis=,OcEntry,,,7". Save and close afterwards.
Insert the Windows 2000 Professional CD into the optical drive, and press the Shift key to disable the automatic operation of the optical drive. Enter "CMD" during operation and press Enter, open the command line mode, enter the following two commands on the command line, and press Enter after each line of command (assuming the optical drive is D disk):
EXPand d:\i386\iis.dl_ c:\Windows\system32\setup\
EXPand d:\i386\iis.in_ c:\Windows\inf\
At this time, open your control panel, click the "Add to delete programs" icon, and then click "Add to delete Windows components".
Please take a closer look. The operating system displayed in the "Start" menu is Windows XP Home, but after modification, there is already an option to add IIS.
Then you can add IIS as in Windows XP Professional or Windows 2000. In this case, we only installed the WWW service. The system will start copying the files, which will take some time. And for this, please keep the Windows 2000 Professional's disc still in the optical drive.
After the installation is finished, you can open "Control Panel → Performance and Options → Administrative Tools", and "Internet Information Service Management" has appeared there.
If you want to verify that IIS is running normally, and you have turned on IE, enter "http://localhost" in the address bar and press Enter. If you can see the interface of Figure 3, then all your IIS will be running normally.
Finally, there is another thing to note: if you need to insert the Window Whistler CD during the installation process or you need to provide the file exch_adsiisex.dll, it is because you installed IIS according to the default options. To solve this problem, just click "Details" when installing IIS and then cancel the selection of SMTP (that is, do not install the SMTP server), then the two files will not be needed when copying the files.
If you find that the Internet Information Services (IIS) installation items have been displayed after you install, but they cannot be selected at all, it is likely that the iis.dl_ and iis.in_ you use are taken out of Windows XP Professional. Just change it to Windows 2000 Professional and you can continue to install normally.
After verification, several services such as WWW, FTP, etc. can run normally on Windows XP Home after such modifications.
